The New Jersey Department of Education has designated the Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center/Student Health Awareness Center as a service provider for continuing education credits mandated for all teachers within the state. In addition to pre-scheduled professional development workshops and programs for schools nurses, in-services are available on a variety of topics for presentation at your location.

Workshops for School Professionals and Nurses

The Student Health Awareness Center hosts at least one professional development workshop each year on topics of interest to school professionals.

School nurse workshops are scheduled from January to June. School nurses who participate in our workshops receive New Jersey Department of Education professional development hours. Past topics have included:

  • Advanced First Aid Techniques
  • Caring for Children with Diabetes
  • Cutting and Self-Injury
  • Physical Assessment
  • Childhood Obesity: Implications for School Nursing Practice

School Faculty/Staff In-Services

Programs are available for teachers and other school professionals for presentation at faculty meetings, in-service days, and special events. Topics include:

  • School Violence Prevention
  • Bullying Awareness
  • Stress Management
  • Eating Disorders and Body Image
  • Drug Awareness Update
  • CPR Training
  • First Aid for Coaches
